A Case of Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis

Abstract
Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis is a rare condition characterized by the presence of gas filled cystes involving the intestinal wall and its attachment.
Authors report a case of thes pneumatosis cystoides¢¥intestinalis which was treated surgically, and review the recent literature-
The followings are results:
1. This case who was 37 years old man had the lesion of gas cysts in the terminal ileum associated with an ulcer of the doudenal bulb and pyloric stenosis and also cothplication of the intestinal obstruction by adhesion.
2. This case was mistaken the correct diagnosis preoperatively because of overlooking the X-ray findings. But pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis can be diagnosed correctly by clinical findings and X-ray study.
3. Pathogenesis of this case can be explained by mechanical theory but it is probable that more than one mechanism will be participated in the formation of the gas cyst.
4. It is interest histopathologically that a small cyst has a feature of granulomatous inflamma-tion with foreign body reaction with central cyst formation.
